This trophy was an award that my grandfather (who used to live at Barton Grange, now Barton Manor Hotel) started in the 1970s. He awarded it to a young person each year that had showed promise and worked hard with their music. In the 1990s, I restarted this tradition.
The recipient this year is WEI YI HO.
Wei Yi is 10 and attends Manchester Grammar school and is in Year 5. The last piano exam he sat was Grade 4 which he passed with Distinction, but he is currently working at around a Grade 6 level. He has played many duets with his sister Wei Ann, and videos of these can be found on my Youtube channel (Anne Topping School of Music)
Wei Yi played the part of Willy Wonka in a very impressive production of the Charlie and The Chocolate Factory – The Musical last year and had to sing some very high notes! He is also a keen swimmer.
Congratulations Wei Yi! 🙂
